Leadline –

Carved Elmwood and lead flashing – 1989

A play on words – the material, lead, a chemical element that bends easily, is hammered and planished into the carved, channelled surface of the Elmwood, it curves but the channel carved into the wood forms a straight line. Lead also describes the graphite in a pencil, the more traditional way for artists to draw a line. The verb lead, is to guide or control.
